Diamond alternatives — moissanite, CZ, white sapphire compared
Alternatives are legitimate — when they are named as alternatives.
Alternatives are legitimate materials — the ethics live in DISCLOSURE.
- Moissanite — silicon carbide; hardness 9.25, sparkle even hotter than diamond (more fire), a fraction of the price. The strongest alternative for daily wear.
- Cubic zirconia — hardness 8-8.5, brilliance good, but scratches and clouds over years. The fashion-tier choice.
- White sapphire — real corundum, hardness 9, but reads flat next to diamond's refraction; loved for natural-gem preference.
- Lab-grown diamond — chemically diamond (not an alternative, an ORIGIN choice); graded on the same 4Cs.
| Material | Hardness | Look | Price tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural diamond | 10 | Benchmark | Highest |
| Lab diamond | 10 | Same | Mid-high |
| Moissanite | 9.25 | More fire | Mid |
| White sapphire | 9 | Subtler | Mid-low |
| CZ | 8.5 | Good, then clouds | Low |
